For tech teams · macOS
Your team's docs, answered. Kept on your Mac.
Kept reads your handbooks, runbooks and policies and answers your team's questions with the exact passage each answer came from. It runs on a Mac you own, and your documents never leave it.[1]
Question
What does Kept send to kept.computer?
Your licence key and a random ID for this copy of Kept, about once a month. Nothing about your documents. If you turn on update checks, it also asks for the latest version, with no system profile.

This is every connection Kept makes, with exactly what it sends. Your documents, questions and answers aren't in any of them.[1]

Run this in Terminal while Kept answers a question. Apart from the connections listed here, every one it shows is to 127.0.0.1, this Mac (or to your office network, if you've turned on access from other computers).

Your AI tools can ask Kept too.
Claude Code, Cursor and your own scripts can look things up in your docs over MCP or HTTP. Read-only, this Mac only, one revocable key per tool.[4]
A tool that runs on a cloud AI sends what Kept returns to that AI's servers. Use a local model to keep everything on the Mac.

One price per office.
Free for 14 days, no card. Then one subscription covers the Mac that runs Kept and the colleagues who ask through it.[6]
What do I need?
A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer), at least 16 GB of memory and macOS 14 or later, plus about 10 GB of free space. Setup installs the free AI engine and downloads the model, once.
What happens when the trial ends?
Your documents, categories and past answers stay. Asking new questions pauses until you subscribe.
Does Kept need the internet?
Only for the model download at setup, the monthly licence check and, if you allow it, update checks. If you're offline at renewal time, Kept keeps working for another week.
What can Kept read?
PDF (scanned ones too), Word (.docx), RTF, plain text, Markdown, HTML, Notion and Confluence exports, and photos of documents. It can also keep a folder or a Git checkout in sync.
Does Kept work with Claude Code and Cursor?
Yes. Kept is an MCP server on your Mac, so Claude Code, Cursor and any MCP client can ask it questions, and scripts can use its HTTP API. Access is read-only, with one key per tool. See the docs.
Can the rest of my team use it?
Yes. Turn on network access in Kept's settings and colleagues on your office network can ask through the Mac that runs Kept, from their browser. One subscription covers them.
Can I cancel or switch plans?
Any time, from your account. Kept keeps working to the end of the month or year you paid for.[5]
